Slane Castle proudly presents a very special ‘Festive Afternoon Tea and Tour’ combining a short, guided tour with the grand tradition of afternoon tea, a glass of bubbles & festive touches to celebrate the ‘most wonderful time of the year’. Hosted in our magnificent King George IV Ballroom, described as ‘undoubtedly the finest gothic revival room in Ireland’.

You’ll enjoy an enthralling insight into Slane Castle and its fascinating history intertwined with that of the Conyngham family who have lived here since 1703. The Castle is equally famous for 40 years of star-studded rock concerts.

An Afternoon Tea and Tour Slane Castle style is both different and interesting. Guests are welcomed in the impressive main hallway featuring imposing fireplaces, fine Doric columns and splendid plasterwork. This room has a place in rock history too, as the U2 video for Pride (In the Name of Love) was filmed here.

Then we’ll invite you to be seated in the Ballroom and enjoy fare fit for the queen who once graced these hallowed walls with her presence. Served on elegant tiered cake stands Slane Castle Afternoon Tea is a delectable combination of festive-themed savoury and sweet treats. Turkey and ham sandwiches compete for attention with mince pies – all minis of course. Favourites Macaroons, bitesize desserts and chocolate-dipped strawberries sit side-by-side with traditional scones, clotted cream and preserves. All are served on vintage crockery, totally appropriate to the historic setting. The famous Beauparc silver teapot, belonging to Lord Henry himself is even used on very special occasions.

Enjoy a glass of Prosecco while taking in your surroundings in this truly remarkable circular room. Originally designed by Thomas Hopper as a library, it features perfect acoustics, a spectacular ornate ceiling and tall windows allowing glorious light to pour in.

Following Afternoon Tea, your personable tour guide will conduct a mini, guided tour of the Castle’s main floor, giving you an opportunity to learn about the Conyngham Family, the history of the building and, of course, the concerts that have been held here over the years. Add in some lesser-known tales and perhaps even a whiff of royal scandal and it all adds up to a truly enthralling afternoon.
